Here, two inquisitive fruit doves perch among a lush arrangement of botanicals—banksias, berries, and soft pink blooms—bringing their own vibrant energy to the scene.

I adored painting the doves’ unexpected colour shifts: those greens, pinks, and soft dove-greys that glow beautifully against the rich reds and deep navy backdrop. There’s a lovely tension between the wild abundance of the flowers and the calm order of the still life—a glass jug I return to again and again, steady and familiar, alongside a cheerful patterned bowl ready to catch a few wandering berries.

The whole piece is about a pause in the day. Light falling just right. Nature pressing itself kindly into the everyday. A small, joyful moment before the birds take flight once more. Enjoy!
