This piece is part of my French abstract floral series, created during my artist residency in the medieval village of Noyers, Burgundy. Drawn from the spontaneous joy of spring bursting through stone walls and tangled gardens, the work captures a moment of bloom—intuitive, layered, and full of colour.
Acrylic and watercolour form the foundation, with Caran d’Ache pastel woven through in gesture and detail. Bold shapes and shifting textures suggest blossoms, seed pods, stems and leaves—each layered fragment echoing the abundance of new growth and surprise colour I encountered daily.
These works are not botanical studies, but impressions—joyful and abstracted responses to the sensory feast of a French spring. Each one holds a memory of scent, colour, and light caught just before it passed.
